Hauling horses is not the tricky part. Loading horses can be a pain in the a**. I spent the first 18 years of my life on a small ranch in western SD. I've seen some pretty dumb ways to load and some pretty smart ways. If you have a calm horse and a calm person loading, 99% of the time it will go fine. If either one are wound up, look out!! A lot of times, if you have a wild horse, putting something over its eyes ( gently I might add ) will calm it enough to get it loaded. A lot of commotion or kids running around is not a good idea either. Driving while hauling horses isn't all that tough. Just go about it like you have a dozen eggs on your dash that you don't want to break.
My Dad had an old sorrel horse that he could load in the back of our '63 Chevy 2wd pickup that had a stock rack ( most people these days probably have never even seen a stock rack ). Dad would step up in the back with the reins in his hand and coax the horse to jump in. That was one of the best horses I was ever around. Aaaa! the good old days.
