I used some fancy 3-part strontium chromate epoxy primer that I got free (surplus from Boeing) and was impressed with how hard it was, how fast it dried, and how well it stuck. However I didn't top coat all of it right away and within a year, all the primer that was exposed to sunlight had turned to yellow powder. It turns out this stuff MUST be topcoated right way, or the UV will eat it up. I don't know if that's true for automotive epoxy primer or not.
