Makes perfect sense to me. If you have a truck that's not been through the wringer and know the history behind it, why replace/rebuild/repaint parts just for the sake of doing so? As with anything, proper maintenance and operation will make for fewer repairs in the future. Unfortunately few trucks exist that don't end up needing the kind of work you mention. And the ones that don't can still be reliably driven with normal maintenance and repairs. Trucks that are brought back from the dead deserve the kind of attention that you've given your truck. To take a truck that doesn't need bumper to bumper restoration should be kept so as long as time is good to it.
