Actualy, the Slant Six was designed so as to allow a lower hood line. Remember Dodge et al were going from a flathead to an OHV engine, and to have a 'normal' six layout would have meant a total redesign of a lot of their cars. This allowed the Slant Six to be installed where the flathead was.

As for performance parts, Mopar made parts many yeas ago. The Hyper-Pak was THE Slant Six of all Slant Sixes. It had an aluminum block, 4-bbl intake, free flowing exhaust, performance cam and higher compression. I've seen a handful of these engines. A friend had one in a convertible Valiant. Another was in a 23T roadster, and the block and all other aluminum was polished, and all iron/steel was chrome except for the head itself. Had three Webbers coming straight out from the side, and six individual long exhaust pipes. Most impressive. It really dazzled the eyes and it really stood out from all the V-8's, especially the umbiquitous plaugue of Chevy smallblocks.

As for performance parts today for the Slant Six, check out Clifford Research. Click the link.
