Hey Nilly!
You hit the nail right on the head. I continually remind people who want to build a set of the Modified Chevy Rims for their old Dodges, that I designed them for the repowered vehicles. These wheels and 41" tires, kind of balance out the increased snap (from repowering) of the driveline. And they are necessary for those vehicles and very capable. In other words, stock M37's are pigs, when using a 41" tire (about a 20% change in Gear Ratio).
But if one just increases the HP and torque at one end, and the gear ratio from tires or ring and pinion, at the other end, the weak links from trans to tires will become readily evident. Even the old stock Dodge trannys are not up to the full HP and Torque of a good V8. (Personally, I think it's a joke to put a 318 up to a stock M37 Trans). So it takes a comprehensive improvement of the total driveline, to accomplish a succesful repower. No easy feat. When someone braggs about how much HP and torque they're running thru their old Dodge, (M37's in my case), I ask to see their broken parts for verification. Daniel has a few. Bob has a few. John Rix and I have quite a few! My guess is that less than 10% of the old Dodge repowers we see and hear about over the net, are the least bit comprehensive. I am on the track to that end, both for myself, and for public consumption. I want the real deal, and you guys can come along for the ride! Thanx Will Liebscher
