A couple years ago I had a gallon of genuine old-fashioned army canvas dope that I picked up at the DRMO and it came with the haz-mat sheet that listed what was in it, and I'm quite sure that was one of the ingredients, or some similarly toxic stuff. I assume that's why it's "preservative", rather than just "water-repellant". Unfortunately I wasted the gallon on an old canvas that immediately tore to shreds the first time I took it on the freeway. Now I have some freshly-waterproofed OD green woodpile covers.
