Water Pump and Heater

Got a question for you folks. I got a replacement water pump from NAPA, for my 230 flathead. The new pump does not have the tapped hole (approx. 1/2" dia. or maybe bigger dia.) next to the "D" shaped opening at the back of the pump that goes in front of the distribution tube in the block. My old pump had this tapped hole, and it had a plug to plug it up. Is this tapped hole needed for anything, like maybe a heater hose, if I had a heater?

The new NAPA part number is 55-713, while the old part number looked like 55-710 on my faded receipt.
