I worked in a machine shop for a short period (6 mo.) and learned alot of different processes for doing alot of things I never knew they did. This particular shop had several electrical motor customers (who rebuilt giant coalmine motors) so of which had shafts at least 12"X 8-10ftand had to be pressed in and out with a shipyard horz. press. Anyway, the smaller motors had SS or aluminium heated and sprayed inside the bearing race holder and was then machined to renew the bearing to housing fit. So basically the metal was heated to the melting point then air sprayed over the metal to be treated and then ground or machined down. Is this the process your referring to ?
