I had something similair last summer. I bushhog fields and stuff part time and I kicked up something in the form of 2 small rocks or chunks of concrete. Hit the side of a ladys SUV. We looked the vehicle over and agreed on 2 hail size dents and some minor scratchs on the drivers door. No cops just exchange #'s and told her to get some estimates and I would get it fixed. 2 weeks later her insurance company is calling me to the tune of 2200$. Tempered Side glass damage (how you do that without busting it into a zillion pieces I dont know). Windshield. Passenger side damage. Front plastic cover on bumper, It was a joke!
Still awaiting the outcome almost a year later.
Always call the cops and get a report made! Like you I learned the hard way!
