I bought the XZLs from Bill around the same time last year and picked up tubes and flaps from him at the same time.
I cut the label from the tube box at that time, for future reference. Here's what it reads:
Firestone Tubes
9.00R10.00R11.00R15TR
Radial Truck Tubes
For use with radial or bias tires
520-780 (This is the tube part number)
Valve: TR444
8Y-975-2D-I10
The stems are about the length that you describe and I had concerns too, but there's not much else available. I've been running them for about a year and a half now with no problems. Two trips to Hollister and no valve stem contact.
