As near as can be determined, many, if not most of the transmission problems with the 47RE have been associated with leaving the tranny in overdrive while towing or carrying heavy loads. The Cummins is just too much for this trans which can trace it's heritage all the way back to the 50's as the 727 Torqueflight.
Dodge has designed a new automatic that supposedly solves this problem, the 48RE, it is available in 49 states, except alas, the state I live in, the communist republic of south american,...uh I
