Sometimes it's not a matter of just opening up the T-Stat but how much water the T-Stat is allowing to pass. A 160 T-Stat should be O.K for summer use in the 100+ degree temps. 180 is probably better. If you changed it out to a more modern (less quality) T-Stat then maybe the original design has been changed. Wish I had a "high-flow" T-Stat part number for you but it's one area I've yet to research (scouring performance parts stores for a compatable hi-flow T-Stats). Good Luck and double check for very small leaks (areas where steam might escape or discolorations) Teeny tiny leaks raise engine operating temps under load & the water loss is negligible. Good Luck!
