There are lots of strange things about this school "replacement". The old one was built in the 1940s and is a solid as a rock, but they decided that parts of it aren't ADA-accessible, and some of the stairs are too steep and the halls too narrow, and it isn't wired up for modern computer gear. They claimed it wouldn't cost any "tax money" to build a new one since "the state" will pay for it. What they're building is no bigger than the old one, not near as solid, and doesn't even look better. Now the the state budget is in deep poo, the governor says he refuses to cut back on education, so they raised the sales tax instead. I'm all for education, but not for replacing perfectly good schools when the old one could easily be remodeled to meet ADA, modern fire codes, etc.

And yes, parents and teachers seem to think the kids need to learn computer everything in school, and we're all supposed to be impressed that the kids "know computers". Any kid with half a brain can figure out how to work a computer without even taking a class on it. Maybe since the teachers and administrators nowadays have never actually built anything, they're afraid of letting the kids near power tools. The only good side of this is that the few people who actually learn how to make and repair real things will be able to charge lots of money to all those computer operators that don't know which end of a screwdriver to pick up.

I guess I got started. Sorry.
