Probably the mixture of Whitworth and SAE nuts and bolts would go a long way in explaining why my 60's Triumph Motorcycle would leave a trail of hardware everywhere it went.

Between that and the electrical (Phillips - Prince of Darkness) the bike required two hours of wrenching for every hour on the road.
