Just go to Napa or some auto parts place and buy a couple of cans of Brake Cleaner. It removes all the oil, grease and dirt from the brake band and dries without any residue. What I do on really oily parts is to spray some on and then scrub the part with a brush to help loosen the heavy stuff and then spray it off. Should be good after that.
