I believe that nitric acid is used. It is wicked stuff. You can buy it frome places like Fischer scientific. It is normally used to passivate stainless steel.
Speaking of frame ID I have a flat fender power wagon frame with the ID # L6W3NL19510. Any body have any idea what year this is??
