Great details; I've been tracking these for years and can add only a few minor points:
The plating was most likely cadmium plating, now considered too toxic for any use, was a yellow/greenish silver color.
I've never seen a stainless mirror extension, but then I've only seen a dozen or two.
None of my PW parts ('53 cab, 2nd series bed, year unk) have shown black primer. The bed *did* have the toughest damned yellow paint I ever saw.
