For your research purposes: I now have 2 NP 420's sitting "side-by-each" in my testosterone flooded, camo-netting covered dzzrt yard. One is from a dodge 230 flattie application and has the smaller mainshaft, bearings and the short little input shaft typical of these beasts. The other, from the '63 W200 has the same exact input shaft as I originally inquired about.
Moral: there are at least TWO NP 420's, one from the the early 230 application and another from the 318"A" application. I don't know if the differences break down by year or if the V8's all used a heavier mainshaft and slightly different gearing than the 6's or if it an 'early v. later' thing.
