if the main caps are loose at all then the bearings are history
the shop manual has a chart that shows the correct torque specs for all fasteners
my book shows 85 ft/lbs for main caps
the rear main seal (and bearings for that matter) can be replaced easily with the engine in the vehicle by a Journeyman and it was standard practice on old iron
the shop manual shows the little tool that is used to spin the upper bearing out.
although with todays society and practice of holding and blaming and sueing everyone for any thing that does not go the way one thinks it should
you might not find anyone willing to do the job - they will probably all tell you to pull the engine and have the work done by a machine shop.
