Glad to hear you got it home. My manuals don't cover that VIN ('62 and '71), so I'm not much help. Easiest thing would be to find a W300 with a shot body or other problems and just move the parts over. If you're piecing things together, it's a little harder but at least you get to pick what to put into it. The conversion should be a matter of chasing down a front end with aprop. gearing, t-case/X-member, driveline fix or replace, and linkage (as if you didn't already know that, eh?)...am I missing anything? I'd go with a NP 205 over a 201/201 because it's hard to find PTO units for the 201. I've never had a good source for dana 70 front axles. Wonder if the military '80s Chevs had the right width? One thing to remember if you use drive-train parts (such as a t-case) from an IHC or other make, the Dodge u-joints...at least on the 1/2 and 3/4 ton stuff...are very close to Spicer sizes, but not close enough. I had to find a conversion u-joint when I used a spicer drive shaft from an IH between the transplanted '68 NP435 4spd and the stock t-case on my M-37 beater. Could have changed yokes, but the trick u-joint worked fine and the yokes have held up.
