I'd change it again at 1000 and then at 3000 and then around 5000-6000 go to synthetic if you want. A good dino oil will probably do just as good. My personal thoughts are the older engines run on dino and newer engines on sytnthetic. I run synthetic in my 95 Ram 360 with great results. The 86 Honda Prelude took to it just fine. The 2000 Neon used it before it was wrecked. I use dino on my 2 old Chargers and my 74 D200 pickup truck with a 440.

I have heard old gasket material doesnt stop synthetic from weeping like new gaskets will so if you used some NOS gaskets to put your flathead together it may leak with synthetic. If you bought gaskets recently and they seem like they could be aftermarket gaskets their material should work with synthetic.
