Yeah, AWD is nice for slick pavement. My Wagoneer has Selectrac, so with manual hubs I have a choice of 2WD, full-time 4WD, or part time 4WD. I would not give up having full-time 4WD (AWD) on a winter vehicle.

A cheap alternative to lockers I've been wanting to try on my Bronco is to add a couple emergency brake levers that would independently apply the right or left emergency brake. I'm thinking I could manually break a spining wheel to send power through an open differential to the other wheel. It will be my Hill Billy version of the electronic tranction control found on your more expensive German SUVs. The down side of this manual control is that you can only really use it after you are already stuck.

It should be cheap. And unlike my ARB airlocker, it won't destroy my rear end if I install it wrong.

Anybody know a good source for emergency brake levers? I'm thinking of the center console mounted type.
