I have never experienced any increase in gas mileage, but I do expereinece less vibration. I also get a lot of comfort that I have less stuff turning needlessly while I'm going down the highway.

Counting the double cardan joint, there were 5 U-joints spinning needlessly on the front of my Wagoneer. I don't have to replace them as often, and If I break one on the trail I can unlock the front and repair it when I get home.

I've got an old set of hubs that fit some early Dana 44s. I included the link to my earlier post. I'd be glad to work with you to see if they will fit your M-880.

I have heard of guys welding the spiders on the front axle. They only lock one hub unless they really need both wheels pulling. With both hubs locked it will be a bear to steer. I wouldn't do it, but it's an option.
