Look at the number of wires on the switch in the tool. In the welding shop I work at, MOST of the Makita tools will run on DC because the switch breaks both sides of the circuit (4 wires 2 in, 2 out) Switches on only one side (1 in, 1 out) and any kind of variable do not last. A true AC/DC motor had the brushes placed at 90 degrees to each other, not at 180 degrees, but any brush type motor should run on DC. As an added bonus, they usually have WAY more power on DC. Most of the pipeline welder up here use 5" grinders because on DC they have as much power as a 7/9" running on AC. Joe L.
