When upshifting, push clutch in, take foot off gas, put in neutral, let clutch out with engine still at idle speed, push clutch in, put in next higher gear, let clutch out. Basically this slows the gears down and will allow gears to mesh without much if any clash. ...but don't be in big hurry or or force things.

When downshifting, it is the same process EXCEPT that you have to run the engine up in speed when it is in neutral, then shift to lower gear as quickly as possible. The speed you run the engine up to (in principle) should be the same rpm as you will be going in the next lower gear....but in practice a bit more because the whole engine tranny system will be slowing down before you get into the next lower gear.

It is very easy to do the upshifts, soon you may find out you can do this by just shifting slowly if you don't run the rpm up too high in each gear...but the method described above works all the time.

Down shifting is much harder...very difficult to get the right speed etc....but the slower you are going, the easier it is.
