Jumpy reverse?

Anybody have any idea what could make a transmission bind and jump in reverse? Forward gears are fine and brakes aren't dragging, but in reverse it acts like it's stuck, then jumps backward suddenly. If I keep going backward at a reasonable speed it's fine but if I stop or go very slow it binds and jumps repeatedly.
