Hi Mike. I have owned three early WDX-B3PW Power-Wagons that still wore the original paint. All three have been in various conditions paint-wise, fron very good to not so good. On all I have found places where newer chips have taken a chunk out of the original paint, but not the primer. On all three of these trucks, the primer has been found to be black. Curiously, all three were painted the same original color - Dodge Truck Dark Green. I do not know if this had anything to do with the primer being black or not.

I spent some time several years ago talking to paint suppliers about duplicating that hard to match Dodge Truck Dark Green. I was told that the color of the primer would have an influence on the resulting shade of the top coat and that they would take the knowledge that I would use black primer into consideration when mixing the Green to match. These conversations took place when matching paint was still considered an art as it was done by hand and trial and error as they did not have the computer scanning capabilities in use now.

Hope this helps. I am interested to see what colors of primer others have found.

Clint
