Vaugn:

The band was bought off ebay as NOS. Not sure that it was specifically for a PW, but its very close, though not exactly like my original (specifically, the hole thru which the smaller bolt & locking nuts run extends approx .5 inch further out than did the hole in my original band). The .005 clearance, I believe I understand, ie., .005 between the top & bottom of the anchor bracket and the anchor. Unfortunately, the nos band bracket was originally so tight it would not fit at all over the anchor. Using I file, I removed enough from the top/bottom insides of the bracket until I could - with force - just push it onto the anchor. However, I have virtually no clearance (either top or bottom) and certainly less than .005 for either. In fact, the clearance is so little that the spring that fits between the anchor bracket outside wall and the anchor will not exert enough force to push the bracket/band away from the anchor when you release the brake. From your last info, I believe I'm going to have to remove the band and take some more (by filing?) metal off of the top/botton inner sides of the anchor bracket until I get approx .005 between both the top/bottom and the anchor. Am I correct?

By the way, I have my orig band but its not in very good shape. There is some material left above the rivets, but this material looks very shiny. I'm wondering whether this is what you meant in your first message about "glazing" if I were to drive the truck with my current tolerances or lack thereof.

Your thoughts?

PS. You've given me (and many others) advice before, and I've always found it excellent. You must have alot of time in these trucks. Aren't you also the one who'se prepared the long list (which I've copied several times) of parts, interchangeability, application, etc. on the forum?

Sincerely, R. (Dick) Rogers
