Buying used engine parts

Getting ready to build my 450 stroker, and trying to figure out how to tell if cranks are rebuildable, have been rebuilt, same with engine blocks.

I am specifically looking at the 400 block, and the steel crank, and rods from a 440.

Any suggestions/pointers would be greatly appreciated.
