There is no fundamental reason why a Power Wagon can't be modified to safely travel at 60-65 mph. But needed mods include of course powertrain, brakes (disks, front at least) power steering, radial tires, new shocks, perhaps a re-worked set of springs (30% lower rate, 1-2" more travel). If things are "loose" they need to be renewed: they weren't loose 50 years ago. there are lots of trucks with straight axles, leaf springs, all gear transfer cases, etc. that are newer an can be safely driven fast(er): Toyota Landcruiser, Ford F350s and pre 88 GM 4X4s come to mind. None of them are like BMWs but we're talking 65 mph, not 125. I'll talk to the questioner privately about diesel swaps, you all have read it already.
