Under most conditions, yes...only time I've seen a flathead rev that high is in neutral. There's not much HP left above 3000 rpm to keep moving you. You sound convinced it did it, but you have to admit the story WOULD have been better with the mountain lion, right? LOL! FWIW, most of the engine disasters I've seen took place at about 3400 rpm. Wasn't much left.
