Alan, if you could provide some additional information, it may help. Here are a few questions:
- Year/model/engine, etc.?
- Is there a lag or "flat spot" when you quickly open the throttle?
- How long was the engine apart?
- Have you checked the timing AND the spark advance for proper operation?
- Does this problem still happen after the engine is completely warmed up?
- All vacuum lines intact and connected properly?
Just offhand, it sounds something like either an accelerator pump problem, or a timing/advance problem, or some combination. However, it's just a hunch. Any additional data from you would be helpful.
