All the gauges on my '52 M37 had been smashed by
vandals and I "rebuilt" them with little trouble
except for the fuel guage which I screwed up through
my own foolishness. I just took them all apart,
cleaned everything well, repainted the scruffy parts
of the dials with a fine brush, calibrated them,
and put them back together. I made new lenses by
cutting them from an acrylic sheet with a circle
cutter on a drill press. I used non-corrosive RTV
in lieu of gaskets when re-assembling.
They don't exactly look perfect since my painting
is not the best, but they're "close enough for
government work".
I actually checked all my old gauges and meters
with I geiger counter one time to see if any had
radium and none did.
