I have a 55 c-3pw and have put a remote mounted oil filter on it. When I was rebuilding my 230 I looked at the oil flow. The flow from the oil pump first go to the relief valve. From the the relief valve the oil goes to one of the ports you talked about on the block. It takes a remote line to the oil filter. One the old sock type filter I believe the it goes into the bottom of the housing. The filtered oil then goes to the main oil galley. To the other port. Be sure to put your oil psi gauge in a port on the main galley this will give you the psi that the mains are getting.
There is another theroy one oil flow. You can find this under the "Forums best page". You can get there from the top of the forum main page. If someone read this message please explain to me Why the oil flow one the best page is different? From what I see inside the engine that is the way it is.
