Why are you so sure it's electrical? It sounds to me more like plugged
idle circuits in the carb.

You should also check the ignition switch to make sure that it bypasses the
ballast resistor in the START position. Disconnect the lead from the ballast
resistor which does not go to the distributor. Then put a tester on the other
connector (the one which does go to the distributor).
Have someone turn the key to start. You should get power when in
start position. If not, the thing will be very hard to start.

If the ballast resistor is shot and the switch works, the truck will start but
immediately cut out when the ignition key is in the "run" position.
