When gasoline gets hot, it expands and eventually vaporizes. This may cause either engine "flooding" (hot soak) or fuel pump starvation (vapor lock). Look for any place in the fuel system that might come close to the exhaust manifold, which is very hot, or even the engine block, which can be hot enough to be a problem. Flexible fuel lines can wander into hot places and cause vapor lock. A carb base gasket that is too thin can cause hot soak. Many PWs had heat shields tto protect the fuel pump from radiated heat off of the exhaust manifold (which is rather close to the fuel pump). Many field mechanics used to discard these heat shields because they didn't think they were needed and were in the way.
