JEFF; YOUR AMBULANCE IS PROBABLY A PRETTY GOOD BUY. REMEMBER THE POPULATION IS INCREASING AND THE OLD CARS ARE DISAPPEARING SO VALUES WILL GO UP. PUT BUCKS IN THE ENGINE AND DRIVE TRAIN. EXHAUST SEATS NEED TO BE HARDENED AND YOU CAN USE NO LEAD FUEL. I JUST FINISHED A 1947 WDX (CHECK PICTURES ON PW PAGE) AND DROVE IT TO RALLY IN FAIRFIELD. IT WAS ABOUT 1100 MILES ROUND TRIP AND DIDN'T HAVE A BIT OF TROUBLE. PARTS READILY AVAILABLE AT VINTAGE PW. SEE PARTS SOURCES ON PW PAGE. I USE MINE AND WILL CONTINUE TO DO SO. BE SURE TO VISIT RALLY NEXT YEAR. VINTAGE ALSO HAS ALL THE MANUELS YOU WILL NEED. A CALL TO STEVE THERE WILL GUIDE YOU THROUGH THE FOREST VERY WELL. GOOD LUCK. MOST IMPORTANT. HAVE FUN! KEEP TALKING. : As long as I can remember, a friend of my father has had a neat old truck. Since I was 5, I've wanted it! Now I'm 25 and it's finally for sale!
: I now know that it is a '41 Dodge Power Wagon Ambulance.
: Since I love history (especially WW2), old cars (I have a '58 Stude. Hawk), and anything else arcane or unusual, I really want this beast!
: The truck has been modified somewhat - i.e. painted gray, modern 12V electrics, grill has been cut to fit a modern winch, interior is "patchworked", etc.
: It is somewhat rusty, and very well used, but mechanically it is very sound.
: It includes a LOT of spare parts and he is asking $2,500. If I buy it, I would like to attempt at least a partial restoration.
: At minimum, I would like to fix up the body and paint it OD green.
: Also, I don't plan on extensive, abusive 4X4 adventuring, although I know it's had plenty already.
: Basically, I would like to know a few things first:
: A. is this a fair price?
: B. is this thing going to be a constant maintenace headache?
: C. is it really rare? (i.e. should I try to find a nicer one?)
: D. how hard is it to find both body and mechanical parts?
: E. will it run on ordinary, unleaded gas?
: My friends and family think I'm nuts, (especially my girlfriend and my parents) but I don't care.
: Any advice anyone could give me would be GREATLY appreciated.
: Thanks for any help.

: Jeff Perrella, Hibbing, MN
