I looked at the MARS repower kit very seriously 4 years ago while rebuilding my WDX.
I met with Paul Caudell, at the Iowa Rally and drove his diesel equipped ambulance.
It was impressive indeed. The repower goes very nicely in the M-series.
After much correspondance back and forth and studying the blueprints i decided to go
with a performance rebuild and keep the truck more stock. At the time Paul hadn't had
an installation in a "Power Wagon". I found the underhood area much more cramped than
a M-37 especially when trying to install the large air and fuel filters for a diesel. Also the
piping for the intercooler ahead of the radiator presented some clearance challanges along with
the front pto driveshaft with the diesel bellhousing. The cost was also a consideration for
me with a tight budget. Back issues of P.W.A.have had some diesel rigs, mostly M- series.
I have photos of one of those GM V-8 diesel "conversion motors" from Iowa last year installed
in a WM300. If $$$$ were no object and performace / economy the goal and I didn't have such
an "original" truck with all the options, I would go the MARS route.
