With the 400 9mpg is about as good as it gets.
You could try swapping carbs to a two barrel and
knock back the timing 3-5 degrees, but then you
might as well be driving a 318 truck. As for the
locking hubs, the milage didn't seem to change on my 79, but I did notice less vibration when running over 65mph. If you do deside to go with the hubs don't forget the blocker kit for the transerfer case.
: I have a 1977 Powerwagon all-time 4x4 club-cab with a 400 V-8 big block. If I made the conversion to locking hubs would i get better gas mileage. I heard it gets about 9 miles to the gallon now , what does anybody think it will get? Does ANYBODY HAVE ANY OTHER SUGGESTIONS IF SO PLEASE WRITE BACK.
