John,
I have two Town Wagons and have checked out a
bunch more. Most of them seem to have what I
guess is an after market large capacity tank. It
is pretty much square and holds 30-40 gallons.
Some of the standard tanks are pretty large also.
On my 60 they cut a hole for the gas filler neck
into the rear valance panel below the doors on the
left side of the truck. There are a couple of
steel straps holding it in place (1/8" or so
thick) with bolts welded to the ends that go
through the frame and nuts on top. It is very
similar to the stock tank on the 64. I haven't
driven the 64 enough to fill it yet but it looks
to be a fairly large stock tank. It seems to me
that you could weld one up cheaper than it is to
buy a new one. It's pretty hard to find one in a
junk yard but may be possible. If I remember I'll
measure the tank and send you the info.
Bill
